brian malii kinyili — personal site

electrical engineer building power, connection & opportunity where i grew up.

i’m brian. i work with wires, sunlight, signal and code — mostly in ikutha, kitui south — and i stick around after the installation to make sure things keep working.

📍 ikutha, kitui county 🎓 teaches electrical at itvc 🏢 founder, kade ventures

this is where the workshop, the classroom & the code meet ↓

☀️

sun first, excuses later

if the sun is shining in kitui — and it usually is — then a dark home or a dead phone battery is a problem we can actually solve.

📡

signal matters

about 70 households and businesses get their internet through the small isp i run in ikutha.

💻

code on the side

17+ cloud systems — point-of-sale, billing and management apps built for small businesses across kenya.

the anatomy of an engineer who can’t sit still.

part electrician, part teacher, part builder of small systems. i learned most of what i know by being the person people call when something stops working.

hands the fixing hands

telecom sites, building wiring, solar installs, fault-finding in the heat. if it carries current or signal, i’ve probably opened it up, traced it, and put it back better.

head the planning head

project management and strategic planning — sizing systems properly, costing honestly, and sequencing work so a job finishes instead of stalling.

voice the teaching voice

i teach electrical at ikutha technical and vocational college. explaining a circuit until it clicks for a student is still one of the best parts of my week.

laptop the late-night laptop

point-of-sale, billing and management software for small businesses — built after hours, tested in real shops, fixed in real time.

heart the home heart

ikutha is not a market to me. it’s home. that changes how you build — you build like you’ll meet the user at the market on saturday. because you will.

i’m always pulling something apart.

call it curiosity, call it restlessness. a jack of all trades is just someone who kept following the thread.

🔆 solar arrays & batteries 🗼 telecom & fibre links 🔌 building installations 📶 rural internet networks 🧾 tenders & boqs 🛒 shop systems 👨🏾‍🏫 lesson plans 📚 community library plans 🔧 whatever broke this morning

a few things keep pulling me back.

i try many things. these four are the ones i don’t drop.

☀️

reliable power, honestly done

solar that is sized right, installed right, and still working in year three — not just on handover day. power changes what a family and a business can plan for.

📡

connection for rural places

a student in ikutha should not need to travel to nairobi to learn, apply, or earn online. bringing steady internet home is slow work, and it’s worth it.

🎓

teaching young electricians

skills travel with a person for life. i want my students to leave itvc able to wire safely, price fairly, and stand behind their work.

🏪

software that helps small shops breathe

most small businesses don’t need “disruption.” they need stock that adds up, records that don’t get lost, and an easier end of day. that’s the software i build.

somehow, i keep ending up taking responsibility.

most things i got curious about, i ended up building. most things i built, i ended up maintaining. i’ve made peace with that pattern.

1

started on the tools

electrical work across telecom, buildings and solar sites — the kind of learning you only get on a ladder, in a ceiling, or on a roof.

the foundation
2

founded kade ventures

my own engineering company — electrical, telecom, solar, building & construction works, done under my name and my word.

3

connected ikutha, one roof at a time

built a small isp that now serves about 70 subscribers, alongside an electronics shop serving the same community.

4

went back — this time to teach

joined ikutha technical and vocational college as an electrical trainer, teaching the trade i practise.

5

started shipping software

one shop system became a fleet — 17+ cloud point-of-sale, billing and management systems now running for kenyan businesses.

17+ systems
6

built bigger, together

co-founded hydrex energy solutions for solar, and began founding the ikutha innovation hub — a home for digital skills, a community library, and new businesses in kitui south.

spot the gap · figure it out properly · build it to last · stick around · go again

enough story. here’s what came out of it.

three things i’m building right now — one for community, one for energy, one for business.
